Here's the last 4th July

Well here is Gina's quilt. A little softer since she's a girl.
I hope these served at least a little to say thank you to the men and women we know that serve in our miliarty. They are all amazing. If you know someone in our military that could use a comfort quilt as a thank you from home - PLEASE LET ME KNOW

Here are my 4th of July

I finished my 3 red/white and bloue quilts. I loved them all. Here is a picture of Michael's and Houstons.

ANOTHER RED/WHITE & BLUE STARTED

Our church has 2 young people active in the military and I wanted to try and honor them on July 4th. I got the idea from a Quilts of Valor website. Kinda leaves me in crunch time since it's June 10th but lets see how it goes. One is a man so I went traditional and the other a new mom so while I used red/white and blue I bought tone on tone red and blue with small flowers so she'll have something a little more feminine. In the military I don't suppose you get a lot of that.
Here's a picture of what I started last night for Michael. I'll post the finished top once I have it done and Gina's once I decide what to do with her's.

RED/WHITE/BLUE PUZZLE BOX

I've finally finished the top of the quilt for Houston. He leaves for the Persian Gulf this month and I wanted to make sure he got it before he leaves. I guess I better get busy this week and get it quilted and the binding put on.

It's not exactly what I wanted but I just couldn't find a pattern I really loved for him. But I think it turned out nice and looks very masculine.

Just Checking In

Wow, I can't believe it's 1/3rd of the way into June and not one single post. Not quilting as much as I should but last night I finished the top of the patriotic quilt I was making for Houston. I think he leaves for the Persian Gulf the end of the month so I better get in gear and get that quilted this week. Today is only Tuesdy so maybe I can drop it off to his mom this weekend.

Our church usually honors our active military on July 4th weekend so I was kinda hoping I could make lap quilts for the two or three in our church that are actively serving right now. Since it's June 9 and I've one to finish we'll see how that goes.

I'll post a pic of Houston's quilt this week after it's finished. have a blessed week.

FINAL DECISION

Well love it or not, I've decided to make the military quilt using the puzzle box pattern. I would have preferred to have someting more unique but after several starts and wasting a lot of fabric I went this route.

I don't "love" it but I do like it and feel it really shows off the American fabric. At tleast I made a final decision and can get rolling.

AMERICAN BACKING

Before I forget I got some backing fabric on ebay for Houston's military quilt. This auction was 23 yards but the price was great and I'll share it with some others so it will get used.

I'm going to put it on the back of Houston's red/white/blue quilt. Here's a pic.

MY NEW MILITARY QUILT

Boy this quilt is not working out. I thought "oh I have plenty of time, don't have to rush" but now Houston's deployment is coming up next month.

I decided I do not like the quilt as you go design for this quilt. I like the concept but red folded to the front is too stark for me. So what now since I've cut up all $58 worth of fabric? Well I tried sewing 5 strips together similar to the quilt as you go block and sashing in red. It's okay but after a day of making those blocks - not loving it.

About midnight last night I thought about the puzzle box so I jumped up and made a square. WOW it really shows off the flag fabric better than the rest. The center is the flag fabric with blue and red sashing. I'll throw in a small white border to get all the colors included. So now I'll rush to get it done but I'll like the final quilt much better and I want him to have something nice to remind him of home. I'll post a pic tonight or tomorrow of the finished block.
